Cala Gracio Holidays

Ibiza is probably best known as a party island, but it also has some beautiful, quiet spots where you can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. You can have the best of both worlds in Cala Gracio. This beautiful resort is quiet and low-key, but in just 15 minutes, you can walk to San Antonio's famous megaclubs and bars, where you can watch the sunset (Sant Antoni in Eivissenc, the local language). Cala Gracio has two lovely beaches, a beautiful rocky coast that you can explore with a snorkel, an aquarium built into the rocks, and a laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere. Inside the island, you can visit small towns in the countryside, and Ibiza Town, the island's beautiful capital, is only a 20-minute drive away.

Your guide to Cala Gracio holidays

What to do

Cala Gracio is in a beautiful place on the rough west coast of Ibiza, which makes it a great place to watch the famous sunsets. It's a relaxed resort popular with families and couples, but San Antonio's great amenities and world-famous nightlife are right outside the door. There are two sandy beaches where you can soak up the sun, water sports (like snorkelling and scuba diving), and a string of charming towns and villages to explore inland. You could spend the day in charming Ibiza Town, the island's lovely capital, which is only 20 minutes away, or you could go to the famous "Hippy Market" in San Antonio and look through the stalls.

Beaches

Cala Gracio has two beaches. The biggest and easiest to get to is Cala Gracio itself, a pretty little curve of fine golden sand lapped by turquoise waters. Walk around the rocky headland to get to Cala Gracioneta, which is even smaller and more remote. Sunbeds and parasols can be rented on both beaches, and even tiny Cala Gracio has a beach bar (which has jazz and chilled-out DJ sessions in the summer). This coast is a great place to snorkel, and there are a lot of scuba diving companies in the nearby town of San Antonio. The beaches at Sant Antonio are longer and more crowded, but they have everything you could want, including lots of places to do water sports.

Eating out

There are many great places to eat and drink in Cala Gracio, and many of them are good for families. There are also great beach bars where you can eat while looking out over the water. Just 2 kilometres away, in the busy city of San Antonio, there are a huge number of cafés and restaurants that serve food from all over the world. You won't want to miss out on local seafood specialities like delicious paella, fresh fish right off the grill, or a tasty fisherman's stew called bullit de peix. Grab some fresh, crusty bread, ripe tomatoes (to rub on the bread as they do in Ibiza), and some of the local cheeses and embutits (cured sausages) for a picnic.

Adventure and action

Cala Gracio is small and quiet, but there are many exciting things to do on this beautiful stretch of the coast! Wakeboarding, water skiing, flyboarding, and paddleboarding are just some of the water sports you can do in San Antonio. You can also rent jet skis, motor boats, and kayaks to explore the coast and find some small, unspoiled coves. Many companies also offer scuba diving trips to some of the best diving spots on the island. Ibiza also has some great hiking trails. For example, some trails along the coast connect the beautiful bays near Cala Gracio and San Antonio.

Culture

In the middle of San Antonio, a 100-year-old windmill has been turned into an interesting cultural centre with art shows and workshops. The whole town has been turned into an outdoor art gallery, and you can find some amazing murals as you walk around. You could also go to the historic lighthouse, which is now a centre for interpretation. It displays the area's relationship with the sea. Most of Ibiza's cultural attractions are in its beautiful capital, Ibiza Town. There, you can explore the island's beautiful old quarter, the Dalt Vila, and a number of interesting museums, such as the outstanding archaeological museum and a small but excellent collection of contemporary art.
